Dr. Cantwell is Board-Certified in Pediatrics & sees both children & adults in his private Holistic Medicine practice at MCMD, in San Francisco, CA (http://www.mcmd.us).  

Holistic Medicine Practice & Training

Before opening his solo private practice at MCMD, Dr. Cantwell was Lead Physician at the Institute for Health & Healing Clinic at California Pacific Medical Center, one of the nation’s premier Holistic Medicine centers (1998-2012), & at Rising Phoenix Integrative Medicine Center (2012-2017), both in SF.  His work has been recognized at the national level through multiple publications, lectures, & service on the first National Advisory Council for the National Center for Complementary & Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), in Bethesda, MD (1999-2003).

Dr. Cantwell’s CAM training & practice includes nutrition & dietary interventions, food & inhalant allergies, detoxification, nutriceutical supplements, endocrine & neurotransmitter treatment, & Western herbal therapy.  He is certified in hypnotherapy & trained in many other subconscious therapies, such as guided imagery & Eye-Movement Desensitization (EMDR). He is also trained in a wide variety of subtle/energetic therapies, such as aromatherapy, Flower Essence therapy, Therapeutic Touch, Reiki (Master), & Shamanism.  He is a Quaker & seeks to integrate the physical, mental/emotional, & spiritual aspects of health.

Conventional Medicine Training

Dr. Cantwell graduated summa cum laude from State University of New York (SUNY)-Buffalo, NY with BA’s in Biology & Philosophy.  He attended Medical School at SUNY-Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY & received his post-graduate pediatric training at the University of Minnesota Hospitals in Minneapolis, MN & the University of California-San Francisco (UCSF), CA. 

Dr. Cantwell earned his Masters Degree in Public Health (MPH) in Epidemiology at the University of California-Berkeley & was a Geographic Medicine Fellow at Stanford University.  Subsequently, he served in the Tuberculosis Control Branch of the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, GA & completed a post-graduate Fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Stanford University & UCSF.
